Copenhagen Games 18: Music Video

Copenhagen Games 18: Music Video

Hey nerds!

A while back, I went to the annual Copenhagen Games esports tournament / lan, and I had a blast! I mostly walked around with a buddy, taking in the atmosphere…But we also tried a few physical challenges (like wearing big-ass sumo suits and wrestling, or seeing who could plank the longest) and played a bunch of games!

I ended up winning a Chicken Dinner by default in the Razer Bus – I came in 2nd, but it turned out someone had figured out how to get into the game from outside of the bus, so the win went to me :D

I was recently impressed with learning that Steven Soderbergh shot a movie on an iPhone, which is why I’ve wanted to do some video content from my phone. On May 5-6, I’ll be attending the Copenhagen Comic Con, and I hope to push out some video content from that event a little faster than I’ve done for this event :P

This video is the first attempt I’ve had at making a music video, so even though I cited my source on the music in the video description as requested where I found it, I’m just going to put it here as well:

Indie Essentials 13: Revenge of the Titans!

Indie Essentials 13: Revenge of the Titans!

The 13th instalment of Indie Essentials is Revenge of the Titans by Puppygames!

Revenge of the Titans is a Tower defense game which tasks you with killing loads and loads of aliens.

Puppygames is a 2-person indie studio out of the UK, who make a lot of well-polished games. They have a unique, slick aesthetic that makes it very easy to tell when a game is developed by them -and if you’re in any way a fan of Tower Defense games, I encourage you to check this one out! The only caveat I have is that the tutorials aren’t fantastic, which can lead you to making mistakes in upgrades or not saving power-ups until they’re actually needed, and that the soundtrack in the upgrade screen would’ve been awesome to have in the main game as well.

Indie Essentials 12: Cargo Commander!

Indie Essentials 12: Cargo Commander!

This week’s Indie Essentials video is about one of my favorite quick-fix indies:

Cargo Commander!

In this kinda-sorta roguelike, kinda-sorta procedurally generated indie game, you play a space trucker who must travel the universe, collecting cargo. You use that cargo to upgrade your space ship / cargo crate, and hopefully at some point rise enough through the ranks of the megacorp you serve to get home to your family.

Cargo Commander came out in 2012, and as such is *very cheap*. If you want to play Cargo Commander, you can buy it for cheap [here].

Indie Essentials 11: Seasons after Fall

Indie Essentials 11: Seasons after Fall

After a short break to deal with personal issues, Indie Essentials is back!

This week’s episode features the very pretty Seasons after Fall!

In this game, you play a semi-demi-not-quite-god, known as Little Seed. A mysterious voice guides you, and a friendly fox allows you to possess it in order to interact with the physical world.

The game has a very sweet atmosphere, which evokes something that feels very nostalgic to me, for some reason.

The game is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One – and if you want to support me, you can buy it [RIGHT HERE] with my affiliate link from Green Man Gaming!

Indie Essential 10: Punch Club!

Indie Essential 10: Punch Club!

LOUD NOISES!

Tonight marks the tenth Indie Essentials video I have made for my Instagram channel!

This week’s game is Punch Club, a neat-o little boxing/fighting/life sim game!

I guess this means I gotta start thinking of doing a longer-form video for YouTube, compiling these shorter videos into something more shareable (maybe?) than videos posted on Instagram.

Over the course of these weeks, I have also started livestreaming over on my Twitch channel – and it would mean the world to me if you would throw a follow my way! So far, I’ve been streaming Bloodborne, Monster Hunter World and a bit of Overwatch. I’m planning on streaming more indie games on my Twitch, so feel free to let me know if there’s something in particular you’d  like to see!

For now, thanks for watching/reading, and see you next week!

Indie Essentials 9: Owlboy!

Indie Essentials 9: Owlboy!

A mix of real life and bad planning is to blame for this week’s Indie Essentials being out a day late – my apologies!

Owlboy is a video game that was ten years in the making, developed by Dpad Studio. The ten years development time really shows – it’s a great game!

It’s a Metroidvania game where you play Otus, a mute Owlboy. Owls, in this world, are the people / creatures (I’m not really sure tbh) who protect their villages in the sky from SKY PIRATES. Yes, you read that right – sky friggin pirates! :D

It’s got “high-bit” graphics, meaning pixel graphics that look super neat. The chiptuney soundtrack is really nice, and does a great job of setting the mood. Lastly, the gameplay is tight – I can’t wait to get all the way through the game. This might be one of those games where I actively try to 100% it on Steam.

Indie Essentials 8: Damsel!

Indie Essentials 8: Damsel!

Indie Essentials is back!

Episode 8 features Damsel, the Early Access game by Screwtape Studios (which came out this week)!

I’ve been following the game’s Twitter account (and progress) for some while, so it’s been a pleasure to finally get my hands on the game. The game has a lot going for it already – the cartoony graphics, and especially the character designs, are just awesome. The soundtrack has a synthwavey feel, which fits the fast-paced gameplay quite well!

I personally look forward to achievements being implemented – something I know is on its way, thanks to the Steam forums for Damsel. I would also love to see some actual story content in-game via cutscenes – or see the game go the TF2 / Overwatch route, and create online comic books for the game to flesh out the world.

The game is 10 euros on Steam, and despite a few bugs, the game has a ton of potential.

Bloodborne & livestreaming

Bloodborne & livestreaming

I’ve decided that I’d like to create some longer-form video content than “just” my Indie Essentials videos on Thursdays. That’s why I decided to livestream Bloodborne, when I got the urge to play it again, the other day.

I’ll be archiving my results on my YouTube, so you can catch them later if you miss them due to my being sort of impulsive and not so planning-ahead-like on my livestreaming. Apologies for the sound levels in the first clip – I mostly cleared Central Yharnam, using just the microphone on my PS Camera. I couldn’t find a good place to do  the sound levels, but I think I’ve solved that for the next time I stream!

Indie Essentials 7: Nex Machina

Indie Essentials 7: Nex Machina

Indie Essentials 7 is Nex Machina!

This game released in June 2017 on PC and PS4, and was made by Housemarque.

The game features a cablepunk take on the cyberpunk aesthetic. If you took away all the neon and lasers, I could definitely see some of this fit into the Alien franchise!

As a heads up, I’m going on vacation to Japan! I’ll try to record videos in advance for the next two thursdays, but if no Indie Essentials 8 & 9 pop up in the next 2 weeks, that’ll be why.

Indie Essentials 6: Forced Showdown!

Indie Essentials 6: Forced Showdown!

The latest instalment of Indie Essentials is out! This week is the Danish game “Forced Showdown” by BetaDwarf!

I originally got this game with my The Indie Box subscription, but I’ve followed BetaDwarf for a few years, due to my interest in the #dkgame scene. I really like the way BetaDwarf integrates their community in their games, like adding Twitch integration and releasing free DLC based on community goals.

This game plays with either keyboard & mouse, or a controller. My personal preference is playing this kind of game with a controller, especially since I got myself a wireless one for my pc!

Forced Showdown is a neat game, and it’s on sale in the Steam Holiday Sale right now, if you’re interested!
